Complacency Defeated....

Tenaliram was a wizard in the courtroom of King Krishnadevrai of Vijayanagaram. He used advise the King in a witty manner and also used to solve some tricky issues coming in the courtroom, that too in a very witty manner.

Once a gentleman, named Atibuddhi, comes to the courtroom, claiming to be the master in every possible art, music, sport, literature and what not. He challenged the King that let anyone in your empire perform anything, which he can't perform. If Atibuddhi is defeated, he will give 10,000 gold coins to the person. But if Atibuddhi succeeds or if nobody challenges him, then the King will have to give him a surrender note in writing. In support of his statement, he showed lot many such surrender notes, taken from various kings.

In those days, giving such surrender note was considered to the most shameful and embarrassing for the King. The whole courtroom was tensed. Nobody was daring to challenge Atibuddhi as everybody was already knowing about him. The King was badly waiting for Tenaliram, who expected to come any moment. And Tenaliram arrives.

He listened to the challenge carefully and once again humbly asked Atibuddhi that he can be challenged for anything or not. Atibuddhi confirms that it can be any act in the world. Tenaliram asks him whether he would be able to do something with open eyes, which Tenali would be doing with closed eyes. This was apparently a very simple and easy challenge. Atibuddhi agreed for the same.

Tenaliram asked the servants to bring a bowl of fine sand. He picked a fistful of it, closed his eyes and emptied the fist on his eyes. Now it was Atibuddhi's turn. He realized that Tenaliram has outwitted him. He agreed that what Tenaliram did with closed eyes cannot be done with open eyes. He accepted his defeat, paid 10,000 gold coins to Tenaliram and went away.

Aesop and Mimicry Artist

Once upon a time, there was a very famous mimicry artist in Greece. He used to mimic the voice of almost all famous human beings, animals and birds. People used to enjoy his performance like anything. The parties thrown by the rich and the famous were incomplete without his event. Once, Aesop's owner threw a party in his house. Needless to say, the mimicry artist was invited to entertain the guests. He too did it so nicely. The one particular item people liked the most was 'the noise of a pig'. The artist hid his face in a shawl and made the noise of a pig in such a manner that everybody felt that some pig must have entered the party hall. Aesop went out for a moment and came back covering himself in a shawl. He claimed that he can mimic the pig in much better way. Everybody started laughing. Aesop requested his master to allow him once. The master somehow allowed. Aesop too hid his face in a shawl and made a noise of a pig. Everyone booed him for that nonsensical nois...

The Best & The Worst Cuisine

Aesop was the favorite slave of his owner. His owner was fully aware of Aesop's capabilities and always used to rely on him in the situation of crisis. His owner was a businessman and so used to throw lot of parties for government officers, customers and other elite people in the society. In order to get his job done, he used to ensure that all these people are best taken care of. One of such regular invitees was a bit cranky. So far he was holding an obliging position, he used to demand whatever he wants. Once he asked Aesop's owner to cook a dish made from the best thing in the world. The owner fell back on Aesop to sort out the matter. Aesop cooked absolutely tasty dish made with the tongues of bulls, goats and sheep. The cranky invitee was very happy. The owner was very happy too. After few days, the same cranky guest asked for the dish made of the worst thing in the world. Aesop cooked the same dish and served. The guest and the owner were obviously wild at Aesop. ...

Picnic Loads

All of us know that Aesop was a slave. Unlike other owners, Aesop's owner was a kind hearted gentleman. He never ill-treated his slaves. At times he used to give them some free time to enjoy. On one such occasion, all the slaves plan to go for a picnic on a nearby hillock. They carried sports material, eatables and other necessary items with them. All of them chose some or the other light weight material. But Aesop chose to carry all the eatables. The load was heavy and Aesop was hardly managing to walk with that load. Everybody was laughing at him. Finally they reached the hillock, of course Aesop was the last one. Whole day they played the games, sang, danced and also finished all those tasty food items they had carried. By evening, they were happy but completely tired. They started back with all the items they had carried in the morning. As they were tired, they were finding it very difficult to carry back those items, but had no choice.  Only Aesop was whistling, s...
